Day 3 (Sunday 27th May)
I awoke at 7am in a lot of pain. I was shivering and had a fever of 39.9. I felt and looked like crap. My throat was so sore and I prayed for death. I was so upset that I had managed to catch a cold at this exact moment in my life. Somebody just come and shoot me and put me out of my misery.
My boss’ wife Maria came to visit me in the morning and thank God my mum was here to entertain her and be social with her as I was zonked and in a lot of discomfort due to this cold. My surgery was relatively pain free and was going well.
Later that afternoon my best friend Vicki (who has been so supportive of my decision) came to visit me and I was still in a bit of a delirious state. Vicki’s dad is a GP (and I used to be his receptionist for 14 odd years) she called her dad who came out and did a home visit and told me I was suffering form a pretty serious cold, he prescribed Augmentin Duo 440 antibiotics in a syrup form with 3 repeats. Dad raced out to the local chemist and came back with the antibiotics and after Vicki and her dad had left I drank my medicine and went to bed.
I was so displeased to have caught a cold and couldn’t comprehend how and where I may have caught the cold. By this stage I had the beginnings of a cough and my operation incisions hurt like buggery every time I had to cough. I would have to grab my pillow and place it gently around my abdomen and squeeze the pillow towards me as I coughed.
I was physically and emotionally beaten.
