The other night mum and I went to a VIP night at a shopping centre. The champagne was flowing and I must say it was very posh nosh walking around holding a glass of champers whist shopping.
I had no urge for a glass but before I could blink my mum had passed me a glass. I took the slightest sip and I found it very bubbly and fizzy. It had been ages since I had drunk anything fizzy and it was all tingly on my palate and sent tingles up my nose.
I took another sip ever so slowly and folks it was all over red rover. I got the worst dizzy spell and I was getting tipsy literally after 2 small sips. Within 15 minutes I was plastered. So my understanding now is that I cannot drink any alcohol whatsoever. I’ve always loved to have a drink but I had to be in the mood, having said that I was never a big drinker and I have always been a 2-pot screamer but this was just ridiculous, 2 tiny sips of champagne and I was gone. I physically could not drive home.
I’ve spent quite a bit of time researching the effects of alcohol and the lap band and I initially found the information a bit contradictory. Some people and some websites report that there is no such thing as getting drunk a lot faster with a lap band, whilst
others indicated that they are getting “pissed” on the smallest amount of alcohol and having a faster alcohol absorption problem so I just don't get it. Why did I get wasted on 2 small sips of champagne?
How have other bandsters coped with drinking? I asked the same question on this thread: http://au.messages.yahoo.com/health/lap-band/22687/ and one response was very similar to mine. I just don’t get it. How can one person be affected by so little alcohol yet others drink a glass or two and have no problem whatsoever?
So I continued investigating this even further when lo and behold my question was finally answered. I found an amazing article that made it all make sense to me. If you are interested in reading it then check it out at:

I haven't had a drink since I was banded... I don't even know if I can drink that much anymore... really don't miss the stuff though, so don't think I'll be trying it any time soon... interesting read though. Thanks!
